AVAILABILITY
OF NEW ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE BOOKS
PERTH,
AUSTRALIA – March 31, 2003: Last
issue we featured two important books on Enterprise Architecture. While we do
not usually include book reviews, because of the deep interest that TEN
readers have shown in Enterprise Architecture we thought it was important to
draw these two books to your attention.
The
first book was written by John Zachman. While John has written many articles
on Enterprise Architecture, this is the first complete book written by the
originator of the Zachman Framework. It will shortly be available in an e-Book
format on CD and will eagerly be read by Enterprise Architecture
practitioners.
The second book was
written by Carol O'Rourke, Neal Fishman, and Warren Selkow. It teaches
Enterprise Architecture as a way of thinking about complex problems. This book
is outstanding; it is a “must-read”. The book is discussed further, below.

TEN - The Enterprise Newsletter
This
is the long-awaited book on the Framework for Enterprise Architecture, the
“Zachman Framework.” It is the single most authoritative work on the
Framework for Enterprise Architecture as it is authored by the originator of
the Framework himself, John A. Zachman.
We
delayed the release of this issue of TEN so we could bring John’s book to you,
but unfortunately it is not yet available for online ordering by readers of
TEN. However its release is imminent. It will be available in an e-Book format
on CD only – not as a hard-copy book.
When it is released for
TEN we will notify you in a special issue. You will then be able to choose to
download it online; or instead request for it to be shipped to you on CD.

This
groundbreaking text introduces Enterprise Architecture and the Zachman
Framework, a tool to guide you through the comprehensive process of thinking,
reasoning, and communicating effectively about even the most complex problems.
It illustrates how business works and how software gets developed and the
disjoin that happens between the two.
Alignment, integration, and flexibility are core goals for delivering today’s
business solutions. Enterprise Architecture Using the Zachman Framework
illustrates these themes and shows tomorrow’s business and technology
professional how to organize, design, and construct a solution for any type or
size of problem.
More
and more corporations including the federal governments of the United States,
Canada, and Australia are adopting Enterprise Architecture and Zachman
Framework programs. Knowledge of the Zachman Framework for Enterprise
Architecture can enable future business workers and leaders to make sure
all requisite business controls needed for corporate governance and
accountability are implemented properly.
The
Framework helps guide practitioners and ensures that when information
technology departments build computer systems, enterprise workers’ and
managers’ needs and wants can be adequately and timely addressed. Enterprise
Architecture and the Zachman Framework provides a roadmap for business
survivability and success by focusing on holistic communication, thought, and
reasoning with the intent of managing ongoing change in the enterprise.
Professional educators and professional information technologists collaborated
to write this book. The book is not about software architectures or technology
architectures; it is about Enterprise Architecture and embodies all other
types of architecture. The Framework’s creator, John Zachman, validated each
of the presented concepts prior to publication. Our world is constantly
changing. "Enterprise Architecture Using the Zachman Framework" is a
tool that shows you how to manage change in the public and private sectors.
