Jan 9, 2012 - Perth, WA: It has been some time since regular issues of  "The Enterprise Newsletter" (TEN) have been published. I retired from presenting public courses in Feb 2010. While I am still presenting in-house courses and providing consulting support for projects in Enterprise Architecture (EA), I have since focused my time on writing the second edition of my EA book. The first edition was published as a hardcover printed book in March 2006: "Enterprise Architecture for Integration: Rapid Delivery Methods and Technologies", Clive Finkelstein, Artech House, Norwood: MA (2006).

The second edition of the book was published as an ebook in PDF on the IES Web Site at www.ies.aust.com. If you email the PDF version of the ebook to yourself on the iPad, when you open the attachment using iPad email, it will ask if you wish to save the PDF attachment to the PDF section of the iBooks Library.

Following the successful launch of the PDF version in June, this issue of The Enterprise Newsletter announces the availability of further ebook versions of the second edition: for the Apple iPad from the Apple iBookStore and for the Amazon Kindle from www.amazon.com. In each case, to locate the second edition ebook from these locations, search for the author "Clive Finkelstein". Each of the second edition ebook versions is $29.99 per copy.

I would like to wish readers of TEN a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. May I wish you and your family great joy and success for the year ahead.

Clive Finkelstein
Publisher, The Enterprise Newsletter (TEN)

Second Edition iPad and Kindle ebook Versions of "Enterprise Architecture for Integration"

I have always been concerned that the first edition of the book was $US140 per copy. I felt that this price was excessive, but it reflected the real cost of publishing a hardcover book of more than 450 pages. With the technologies and devices that have become available for ebooks since 2006 - specifically via PDF and for the Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle - I felt that these offered the opportunity to publish a more reasonably priced book: at only $AUD30 per copy. Furthermore, I felt that an ebook was more convenient to use for a number of reasons:

For example, the iPad allows colour to be used in iBooks; the font size and the font itself can be changed while reading; bookmarks can be placed for later quick access and selected text can be highlighted in yellow. Double tapping on a word brings up a dictionary definition. Double tapping on an embedded figure or photo causes it to jump out of the page in portrait mode; rotating to landscape mode then enlarges it for readability. It also offers the potential for embedding video clips in an iBook. The Kindle app on the iPad displays ebooks in colour and the font size and the font can also be changed while reading;.
